Of course, royal abdication has a rather sordid history.

In fact, as of publication, King Charles III has yet to enjoy a coronation.

Why the “consort” designation?
Consort is given to those who are royal by marriage, not royal by blood.
But, Parade notes, she will likely be called Queen Catherine by the public.

William is now the direct heir to the throne.
That’s quite a lot of pressure to place on a kid still in elementary school.
King Charles was, of course, the direct heir to the British throne for decades.
